  2. Quote 1 is said by John Proctor. He says it to Elizabeth. He means that Elizabeth wont getover the fact that he cheated on her. He thinnks whenever he ishome with her he is being judged like he is in court. This quote is significant because it shows you what kind of relationship that Elizabeth and John have.

Quote 4 is said by Elizabeth. The quote is directed torwards John. It is about Abigail. It is significant because it shows that Elizabeth is afraid of Abigail. It always shows thst Abigail and Elizabeth hate eachother.

  3. 4. "She wants me dead, John, you know it!'
    - Elizabeth Proccter
Elizabeth knows that John had an affair with Abigail and she knows that Abigail wants to be with John. After Elizabeth thinks about who accused her for using witchcraft she figured it out who it was, Abigail. She knows Abigail and she knows that she would do anything to get John, and the only way to get him is to get rid of her. That is what she is trying to do. This quote is referring to John.

    5. "I have gone tiptoe in this house all seven month since she is gone. I have not moved from there to there without I think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches round your heart. I cannot speak but I am doubted, every moment judged for lies, as though I come into a court when I come into this house."
    - John Procter
In this quote John Procter is speaking to Elizabeth. This happened when she found out that John has an encounter with Abigail alone. She then becomes worried and confronts John. Then he says this quote which is telling her that ever since he had an affair with Abigail she wont let it go. He is saying that she just lets it follow her around. He is also telling her that ever since then he has been trying to please her and make her happy, and that he is doubted and accused of everytime he does something.

  4. JOhn Proctor-"I have gone tiptoe in this house all seven month since she is gone. I have not moved from there to there without i think to please you, and stilll and everlasting funeral marches round your heart.I cannot speak but I am doubted, every moment judged for lies, as though i come into a court when I come into this house!"
John feels terrible about his affair with Abigail. However, he believes he is being wrongly treated and being wrongly questioned every time he comes in the house. How could John even remoetely complain about being over-questioned for his wrong doings? He cheated on Elizabeth and she has every right to question him and chastise him.

Elizabeth Proctor- "She wants me dead, John, you know it!" Elizabeth knows that Abigail want her dead so that she can have John all to herself. John doesn't completely realize the games she is playing games until she accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft, when he knows that she doesn't lie, and she surely doesn't practice witchcraft.

  5. 4. "She wants me dead, John, you know it!"

This quote was said by Elizabeth Proctor because her and John know all about Abigail William's affair and how she wants to get rid of Elizabeth. Abigail created a whole situation about a poppet that Mary Warren had made for Elizabeth and turned it into a huge situation how Elizabeth is apparently a witch. Elizabeth realizes that Abby wants to take her place with John and won't stop till she gets what she wants.

    3. "I made a gift for you, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing."

This was said by Mary Warren, the proctors slave. This proves that Abigial is lying because Mary sewed the doll, not Elizabeth. The Proctors can't use this as a defense in court because anything they say the court won't believe because Abigail is never questioned. So basically Elizabeth is automatically guilty for something she didn't even do.

Quote #3, Mary Warren to Goody Proctor:
"I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing."

This quote was said by Mary Warren discussing the poppet. She was describing that she made her a gift that took a long time for her to sew. This is very significant later in the act when Elizabeth is accused of using witchcraft to stab Abigail, we know she is wrongly tried for the poppet wasn't hers; but a gift from Mary Warren.

Quote #4, Elizabeth to John Proctor:
"She wants me dead, John, you kow it!"

This quote was between Elizabeth & John Proctor pertaining to Abigail. Elizabeth knew that John had had an affair with her in the past & had suspicions of something going on now. Elizabeth always acts suspicious & jealous when it has anything to do with John & Abigail.. Now that Abigail has confessed to witchcraft she can accuse anyone of it. When she fabricates the poppet story & accuses Elizabeth, Elizabeth knows that it is simply the evil tactics of Abigail trying to get rid of her, so she can finally be with John.

  7. 4. "she wants me dead, John, you know it!"
    Said by: Elizabeth Proctor

This quote was said by Elizabeth Proctor. Elizabeth knows that John and Abby had an affair. Abby says that they didn't treat her right when she worked for her, but she wants Elizabeth dead because she loves her husband. Abby wants to take Elizabeth's place so she lies and accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft. She stabs herself with a needle and then hides a different needle in a poppet. Abby wont stop until she gets what she wants.

    3. "I made a gift for you gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing."
    Said by: Mary Warren

Mary Warren is the Proctor's slave. She is the woman who made the doll. This should prove that Abby is lying. I say this because Mary Warren was the one to sew the doll or poppet not Elizabeth. The Proctor's can't use this as a defense in court because anything they say is not believed. This is because Abby is never questioned. So, basically Elizabeth can't do anything.

    3) " I made a gift for you today,Good Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing."
    - Mary Warren said this to Elizabeth Proctor, and was referring to the poppet (doll) she made. This same poppet is the reason Elizabeth Proctor was accused of witchcraft. This quote is very significant to The Crucible because Abigail accused Goody Proctor of witchcraft. Supposedly Elizabeth performed her witchcraft on this poppet to make Abigail receive stab wounds.

4)" She wants me dead, John, you know it!"
    - This quote was said by Goody Proctor, to her husband, John Proctor. She was referring to Abigail, the young teenager who is in love with her husband. This is evry significant,to The Crucible, because Abigail will do anything to be with John. She has accused Elizabeth of witchcraft because she wants her out of the picture, she wants Elizabeth gone for good. Abigail is a manipulative adolescence and will do everything in her willpower to be with John, even if that means getting Elizabeth killed through accusing her off witchcraft.

  9. Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth Proctor said "She wants me dead, John, you know it!" to John Proctor. I believe that Elizabeth is talking about Abigail in this quote. Ever since John has rejected Abigail she has been trying to get rid of Elizabeth and replace her. This explains why Elizabeth was saying that Abigail wanted her dead.

When John and Elizabeth are speaking to each other, John says "I have gone tiptoe in this house all seven months since she is gone. I have not moved from there to there without I think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches round your heart. I cannot speak but i am doubted, every moment for lies, as though I come into court when i come into this house!" to Elizabeth. Ever since Elizabeth found out about John cheating with Abigail, he has not been trustworthy. He trys to explain that since she found out and he left her, that he has been doing everything he can to please her. Everything that he says Elizabeth questions and i do not blame her; however, John does not understand that.

    3. Mary Warren, "I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing." This was what Mary Warren said to Elizabeth Proctor. Around this time it was late at the Proctor's house and Mary had just come home after a long day at court. About an hour later, Hale and some other men arrived. Cheever, one of the other men, had come to arrest Elizabeth. John screamed and yelled for some proof, and all he got was the poppet. The one with the needle in it, the one from Mary Warren. Abigail had stabbed herself in the stomach with a needle and framed Elizabeth. Its importance is to show how evil Abigail is and how she'll stop at nothing to rid of Elizabeth Proctor. Mary Warren confessed, but they still took Elizabeth away.
    4. Elizabeth Proctor, "She wants me dead, John, you know it!" John and Elizabeth were arguing, yet again, about Abigail Williams. Abigail has and is doing everything in her power to get Elizabeth killed or jailed. She drank a charm for ELizabeth's death in the woods, she accused Elizabeth of witchcraft, and she stabbed herself with a needle to attempt to rid of her. All Abigail wants in life is John, and she'll destroy everything in her way to get him. No matter what she has to do she'd do it for her own personal gain. It shows how selfish and ruthless young love and lust actually is.

    3. "I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing." -Mary Warren.

In this quote Mary Warren is speaking to Elizabeth Proctor. She explains that the poppet she gave to Elizabeth she made herself. This quote plays a part as to why Elizabeth is arrested. Mary Warren is lying to Elizabeth. She did not make the doll, but she got it from Abigail to give it to Mrs. Proctor. In the doll was a needle. The needle in the doll was located in this same place Abigail was stabbed. It wasn't accidently put there, but purposely. Therefore, Elizabeth was arrested, but it wasn't her doll.

    4. "She wants me dead, John, you know it!" -Abigail Williams.

In this quote Abigail is speaking to John Proctor. However, Abigail is talking about Elizabeth. Abigail is saying to John that Elizabeth wants her dead, and John knows it. Abigail says this because Elizabeth knows about their affair. Elizabeth was obviously angry with Abigail, and she's talked about her in town. Abigail is jealous of Elizabeth. She will do anything to get rid of her, and take her place.

  13. 4. "She wants me dead, John, you know it!"
This quote was said by Elizabeth Proctor. Her and John both know that Abigal wants to be with John. Abigal would do anything to get rid of Elizabeth. She wants Elizabeth gone so she can have John all to herself. Abigal is a self centered person who only cares about herself.

3- "I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing"
This quote was said by Mary Warren. Abigal is obviously lying because Elizabeth didn't even sew the doll, Mary did. Unfortunately the doll can not be used in court because Abigal is automatically gonna be not guilty. So Elizabeth is going to be guility no matter what.

  14. 4. " She wants me dead, John, you know it!"
This quote is spoken by Elizabeth. Elizabeth explains to John that Abigail wants her out of the picture so Abigail can take her place. She tells him everything Abigail is trying to do. Abigail blames Elizabeth for stabbing her in the stomach, and accuses her of witchcraft. None of this is true, but at the end of Act II Elizabeth is taken away.

    2. "I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you."
This quote is said by Elizabeth. She is talking to John. She tells him that she doesn't judge him, but God will judge him on his actions. She tells him this because he has broke a commandment and wants him to never cheat on him again and learn from his mistakes.

I have not moved from there to there without I think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches round your heart. I cannot speak but i am doubted, every moment judged for lies, as though i come into a court when i come into this house!" John Proctor is saying this to Elizabeth. He is saying this because Elizabeth thinks John isnt all there for her. She thinks he is in love with Abigail Williams, ever since he had an affair with her. Elizabeth has been acting weird ever since John had the affair. She probably thinks he is still sneaking around.

    4. "She wants me dead,John, you know!" Elizabeth Proctor says this quote and she is talking to John about Abigail. Abigail wants John Proctor and will do anything to get him. So far she already accused Elizabeth of witchcraft and is now in jail. Elizabeth is trying to get John to fight against the witchcraft and try to solve the whole problem.

  17. 3. The third quote is spoken by Mary Warren who is speaking to Elizabeth Proctor. The significance is that Mary Warren gave Elizabeth a poppet as a gift. Mary Warren made the poppet during her spare time. She gave it to Elizabeth because Mary Warren thinks at times like this that everyone should love each other right now. Elizabeth agrees with her.

    4. The fourth quote is spoken by Elizabeth Proctor who is speaking to John Proctor. The significance is that she knows that Abigail Williams is going after her. Elizabeth knows soon enough, Abigail is going to accuse her of witchcraft and have her arrested. Abigail will do anything to get rid of Elizabeth, even if she has to kill her.

    - Martha Corey

In this quote Martha Corey is talking to Elizabeth Proctor. This was when Martha Corey came back from court and she was giving a poppet to Elizabeth as a gift. It has a needle inside of it and in the end,Martha's gift is what gets Elizabeth arrested.

    4. "She wanst medead,John, you know it!"
    - Elizabeth Proctor

Elizabeth Proctor is saying this to her husband John. She is referring to Abigail Williams. She wasnt Elizabeth dead so she can have her all to herself. Abigail had an affair with John in the past. She still has feelings for John but John doesn"t like her anymore. She is now doing all she canto get rid of Elizabeth in order for John to be all hers.

  20. The first quote I chose was "She wants me dead, John, you know it" because it is one of the most interesting quote of them all. Abigal said this to John Proctor when they were on the side of the house. Abigal was worried that all the girls would turn on her because she told people about witchcraft. John and Abigal have a little of a relationship that no one knew about.

The second quote that chose was "I have gone tiptoe in this house all seven month since she is gone. I have not moved from there to there without I think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches round your heart. I cannot but I am doubted, every moment judged for lies, as though I come into a court when i come into this house!" The person who said this was John Proctor to Elizabeth about the witchcraft going around town and people are just being accused of it.

  21. 3. Mary Warren "I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing.
In this quote, Mary Warren is telling Elizabeth how she made her a poppet. After she gives it to her, she is saying that now they all must love eachother. This quote is significant because Mary Warren gives Elizabeth the doll right after she states how she is sick. Then the conversation leads to how many women have been arrested so far.

    4. Elizabeth "She wants me dead, John, you know it!"
Elizabeth is talking about Abigail. She thinks that Abigail wants her dead, and wants to have John Proctor all to herself. Elizabeth thinks that Abigail is trying to take her place and get rid of her for good. The significance of this quote is that Elizabeth is correct, and she doesn't want to accept the fact that all of this is true.

  24. Laura Falana>Brooke Marano:

I agreed with Brooke completely. Her paragraphs were well written & thought out, showing she read & understood Act 2 of The Crucible. She is correct on saying that Elizabeth is jealous of John/Abigail, and there is much evidence in this act to support it. Very good :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am responding to Nicole Maulo's post...

I agree one hundred percent with Nicole's opinion. Elizabeth is accused for something she didn't do all because of Abby. Abby wants to take her place as John's wife, and won't stop til she gets it. Even if it means lying, which she won't get caught for because she's neice of the reverand. Even though Mary Warren made the doll, confessed, and said she put the needle in it they still took Elizabeth. This proves that Abigail gets her way in the court and church. The worst part is John can't prove what Abby said to him because people would just find it to be revenge for his wife. Or Abigail will tell about the affair, and get John arreseted. Abby wins either way.

I agree with both your quote explanations. It well explains what the quote means, who they're talking about, and what's happening throughout the play. I now fully understand what's going on, and can't wait to see what happens next.

  28. 4- "She wants me dead, John, you know it!
This quote is said by Elizabeth in the play. She is talking to John Proctor. This quote is very important to the play. When Elizabeth says this she is talking about Abigail wanting her dead. She knows John cheated on her with Abigail and now Abigail wants John, so now Elizabeth is trying to get rid of Elizabeth. Elizabeth willl lie and do anything to get rid of Elizabeth. Now Elizabeth is suspicious of John's infidelity.

    1. “I have gone tiptoe in this house all seven month since she is gone. I have not moved from there to there without I think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches round your heart. I cannot speak but I am doubted, every moment judged for lies, as though I come into a court when I come into this house!”
John says this to Elizabeth when they are talking about his affairs with Abigail. He is saying that he bin home ever since Abigail left. Elizabeth is not believing nothing that is coming out of John's mouth. She thinks its a bunch of bologna. John now beilves everything he is saying is being judged by Elizabeth. He beilve he is being misstreated.

  31. Elizabeth says to John "she wants me dead, John you know it". Elizabeth is talking about Abigal and her obsession with John. Abigal will do anything to be with him even if it means getting rid of Elizabeth. John and Abigal had a secret affair behind Elizabeth's back.

"I have gone tiptoe in this house all seven month since she is gone. I have not moved from there to there without i think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches around your heart. I cannot speak but I am doubted, every moment judged for lies, as though i come into a court when i come into this house!" This quote was said by John to Elizabeth. He said this because she always questioned him and accused him of things. She did have a right to be suspicious.

  32. @BrookeMarano - I agree completely with what was said in your post. I agree that Abigail wants nothing more but to be with John Proctor, and she wants Goody Proctor out of the picture. Quote 3)"I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing"
In Act2 The Crucible this quote above was said by Mary Warren.Mary Warren was making a poppet for Elizabeth Proctor. Later Elizabeth Proctor was accused for the attempted murder of Abigail Williams. This accusing of witchcraft was made because Abigail was stabbed in the stomach and the poppet, that Mary Warren gave Elizabeth, had a needle in the stomach, like Abigial.
Quote 4)"She wants me dead, John, you know it!"
This quote was said by Elizabeth Proctor to her husband John Proctor. Elizabeth knows that Abigail wants her dead because Abigail is jealous of Elizabeth. John also knows this is true beacause if it wasn't, Abigail wouldn't accuse Elizabeth of witchcraft.

This quote was said by John Proctor. He was saying this to Elizabeth Proctor. During the conversation which this quote was said, John and Elizabeth were talking about John's affair with Abigail Williams. John was saying how he has been at home ever since Abigail left. All he does is try to please Elizabeth, but she doesn't seem to forgive him. He feels that he is being judged on everything he says. I think that John feels uncomfortable in his own home.

    3. "I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing.”

This quote was said by Mary Warren. She was speaking to Elizabeth Proctor. Mary said this when she came home from Salem, even though John Proctor forbade her from going. What she was talking about was a poppet she had made. Mary also stuck a needle in the belly of the poppet by mistake. This is ironic because Abigail Williams had a needle stuck in her belly that night. Elizabeth was arrested for witchcraft because Abigail testified that it was Elizabeth's familiar spirit that stuck the needle into her belly.
